What is Home Room?

Your Home Room is the personal hub automatically created for every NotaeLibrary member. Think of it as your private apartment inside the library β€” it belongs only to you and is always waiting when you log in.

Unlike public Study Rooms (which you join or are invited to), Home Room is never visible to other users. It is the place where all your personal reading activity, bookshelf, notes, and AI assistant live.

πŸ“š

πŸ€–

AI Personal Assistant

A private AI reading advisor that knows your tastes and history.

πŸ“°

Unified Feed

All posts from every Study Room you've joined, in one place.

πŸ“…

πŸ“Š

Streak tracking, books finished, rooms joined.

πŸ—‚οΈ

My Rooms Widget

Quick access to every Study Room you're a member of.

πŸ€–

Your Personal Assistant (PA)

Every Home Room comes with a built-in Personal Assistant (PA) β€” an AI reading companion that lives in your room's chat. Unlike general AI tools, your PA has context about:

  • Books on your shelves and reading progress
  • Study Rooms you belong to and their reading lists
  • Your reading history and preferences over time
  • Upcoming events and tasks you've created
πŸ’‘You can access your PA from the πŸ€– Ask PA button in the Home Room welcome banner, or by navigating to your Home Room's Chat tab.

Use your PA to get book recommendations, summarise chapters, ask follow-up questions about something a Study Room discussed, or just think aloud about what to read next.

Study Rooms β€” the Social Layer

While Home Room is private, Study Rooms are collaborative spaces shared with other readers. Each room is built around a community, book, series, or topic and can contain:

πŸ’¬

Chat

Real-time discussion with all room members.

πŸ“

Posts & Discussions

Long-form posts, polls, and threaded conversations.

πŸ“–

Reading List

The room's official book list β€” works the group is reading together.

πŸ“…

Events

Virtual or in-person meetups, author Q&As, read-alongs.

πŸ””

Notifications

Get alerted when members post or the room announces something.

πŸ“‘

Feed Posts

Room activity surfaces in your Home Room unified feed.

ℹ️Home Room vs Study Room: Home Room is your private base. Study Rooms are the communities you choose to join β€” and everything happening in those communities flows back into your Home Room feed and calendar.
πŸ“‹

Bulletin Board β€” Room at a Glance

Every Study Room has a Bulletin Board β€” your first stop whenever you enter a room. Think of it as the corkboard by the door: a quick read before you dive into chat or posts.

The Bulletin Board pulls together the most important information about what's happening right now in the room:

πŸ“Œ

Pinned Announcements

Messages the room owner or moderators have pinned for everyone to see.

πŸ“

Recent Posts

The latest discussions and updates from members, without having to scroll through chat.

πŸ“…

Upcoming Events

Events scheduled in this room, surfaced at a glance.

πŸ“‘

Room Activity Snapshot

A summary of recent activity β€” who posted, what happened, what's new.

πŸ’‘Find the Bulletin Board at Study Rooms β†’ [Room Name] β†’ Bulletin Board in the room navigation bar, or go directly to /study-rooms/[slug]/bulletinboard.

The Bulletin Board replaces what was previously called β€œMy Desk” β€” the name change reflects its real purpose: a shared, at-a-glance summary for the whole room, not a personal workspace.

Joining & Subscribing to Rooms

There are three ways to get into a Study Room:

1

Browse & Request

Go to Study Rooms and find a public room. Click Join. Some rooms are open; others require the owner to approve your request.
2

Use an Invite Code or Link

If someone shares an invite code or link with you, enter it in the πŸ”‘ Have an invite? box on the home page (/). You'll be taken directly into the room.
3

Accept an Email Invitation

Room owners can invite specific members by email. Click the link in the email and you'll be placed directly into the room with the correct membership level.
⚠️Rooms have different membership roles: Guest, Member, Moderator, and Owner. Your role controls what you can post, moderate, or configure. Most new joiners start as Members.

Once you join a room, it appears in your My Rooms sidebar and the My Rooms widget on this page. You can switch between rooms from the left sidebar while inside any room.

πŸ“°

The Cross-Room Feed

The Your Rooms' Feed section in the middle of your Home Room is one of the most powerful features. It aggregates every post from every Study Room you belong to into a single chronological stream β€” no need to check each room individually.

  • New posts and discussions from all your rooms appear here
  • Unread items are counted and shown as a red badge
  • You can click any item to jump directly into that room's thread
  • Click Full feed β†’ for the paginated full-screen view
πŸ’‘If your feed is empty, you haven't joined any Study Rooms yet. Head to Study Rooms to explore what's available.
πŸ“š

Bookshelves & Reading Progress

Your personal Bookshelves live inside Home Room and are completely separate from any Study Room's reading list. You can create shelves like Currently Reading, Finished, Want to Read, or any custom shelf you like.

When you open a book from the catalog (Search Catalog) and start reading, your progress is automatically saved. The Continue Reading strip at the top of Home Room picks up exactly where you left off.

Add to shelf

From any book page, click 'Add to Shelf'

Track progress

Open the reader β€” progress saves automatically

Manage shelves

Visit Bookshelves from the sidebar or dashboard

ℹ️Room Reading Lists are separate. A Study Room can have its own official reading list (books the whole group reads together). Those appear in the Room Reading Lists section at the bottom of your Home Room β€” for discovery, not tracking.
πŸ“…

Events & Calendar

Any Study Room you belong to can host Events β€” scheduled meetups, live read-alongs, author Q&As, or virtual discussions. All upcoming events from all your rooms are consolidated in the Upcoming Events widget on this page and in your Calendar.

  • Events show title, date, time, and which room is hosting
  • Some events require an RSVP β€” click the event to confirm attendance
  • Virtual events include a meeting link that activates at start time
  • In-person events include a location field
