Creators & Pen Names

Understand how your creator identity and pen names work together — from first setup to a public fan community in the catalog.

đŸĒĒ

Your two creator identities

As a creator on NotaeLibrary, you have two separate but connected identities:

🧑 Creator Profile

One per account. This is you — the person behind the works. It powers your public hub page at /creators/[your-slug].

  • ✓ Your name, bio, social links
  • ✓ Aggregates opted-in pen names
  • ✓ No librarian approval — you control visibility

✍ī¸ Pen Names (Author Profiles)

One or many per account. Each pen name is a distinct writing identity — its own slug, works, biography, and fan community.

  • ✓ Unique public lobby at /creators/[pen-slug]
  • ✓ Automatic fan room (always on)
  • ✓ Two-step catalog listing: you opt in, librarian approves
â„šī¸The URL namespace is flat — both the Creator Profile hub and individual pen name lobbies live under /creators/. The platform checks your Creator Profile slug first, then pen name slugs. Slugs must be globally unique.

Your account

├─ Pen Name: J.A. Smith → /creators/j-a-smith

├─ Pen Name: Jane Nightfall → /creators/jane-nightfall

└─ Pen Name: J. Smith-Williams → /creators/j-smith-williams

🧑

Creator Profile — the person

Your Creator Profile is your top-level public identity on NotaeLibrary. It lives at /homeroom/settings/creator and controls what readers see when they visit /creators/[your-slug].

Display Name

Your public creator name. Appears on your hub page and across the platform.

Profile Slug

Sets your public URL: /creators/your-slug. Lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only.

Bio

A paragraph about you as a creator. Shown on your hub page.

Social Links

Website, Twitter/X, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok. All optional.

Make my creator hub public

visibility
When checked, your hub page at /creators/[slug] is publicly visible. When unchecked, it returns a 404. You control this — no approval needed.
💡Your Creator Profile is the person page — it aggregates your pen names so readers can discover all of them in one place. You choose which pen names appear here using the "Show on creator hub" toggle on each pen name.

Pen Names — your writing identities

A pen name (also called an author profile) is a distinct writing identity. Each pen name has its own:

  • 📖

    Works catalog

All works tagged to this pen name appear on its public lobby page

  • 🌐

    Public lobby

A reader-facing page at /creators/[pen-slug] — always live, even with no community

  • đŸ’Ŧ

    Fan room

Auto-created when you create a pen name. Can be kept quiet (works-only) or opened as a full community

  • đŸˇī¸

    Catalog listing

Opt in to appear in the /creators browse directory — requires librarian approval

You can have as many pen names as you need — one for every genre, audience, or project. Readers who follow one pen name will not automatically see your other names unless you connect them via your creator hub.

➕

Creating a pen name

Go to Workspace → Pen Names and click "+ New pen name". You will be asked for the basics; you can fill in the rest later on the edit page.

1

Enter a display name

This is the name readers will see on your lobby page and on all your works published under this pen name. It can be anything — a real name, a pseudonym, or a brand name.
2

Choose a slug

Your slug becomes the URL for this pen name: /creators/your-pen-slug. Pick something short and memorable. Slugs are globally unique — if it is taken, try a variation.
3

A fan room is auto-created

The moment you save a new pen name, a fan room is automatically created and linked to it. The room starts in quiet mode (lobby-only — shows your bio and works). You can activate the full community any time from the pen name edit page.
4

Edit your pen name

After creation you land on the edit page where you can fill in bio, profile image, social links, catalog settings, and community controls.
💡Your first pen name is automatically marked as your primary pen name — it is used as the default for KDP imports when you have not picked a specific pen name.

Editing a pen name — all the fields

Open any pen name from Workspace → Pen Names and click Edit to reach the full edit form. Here is what every field does:

Display Name

The public-facing pen name. Shown on your lobby, works, and anywhere this identity appears.

Slug

The URL segment: /creators/your-slug. Changing the slug changes your public URL immediately — update any links you have shared.

Profile Image

A square photo or illustration. Shown at the top of your lobby page.

Bio

A description of this pen name — genre, style, what readers can expect. Shown on the lobby.

List in public catalog

catalog
When turned on, your pen name is submitted for librarian review. Once approved it appears in the /creators browse directory. Turning it off withdraws your listing and resets approval.

Show on my creator hub

hub
When turned on, this pen name appears as a card on your Creator Profile hub page (the person page at /creators/[your-creator-slug]). Use this to let readers discover your other pen names from a single page.

Fan Community (communityActive)

community
The toggle for your fan room. When off, your lobby shows only bio, works, and a Follow button — clean and simple. When on, the full fan room opens: chat, posts, events, member count, and a Join button. You can flip this at any time.

Lobby link

A read-only link to your public lobby at /creators/[slug]. Your lobby is always live — even with community off and the catalog listing not yet approved, anyone with the link can visit it.
📋

Getting listed in the public catalog

The /creators directory is the public browse page where readers discover pen names and creator profiles. Getting listed is a two-step process:

1

Opt in — toggle "List in public catalog"

On the pen name edit page, turn on "List in public catalog". Your status immediately changes to:
Pending review

Your lobby is still accessible directly — the only change is your listing request is now in the librarian queue.

2

Librarian review

A librarian reviews your pen name — display name, bio, and attached works. They may approve or reject. You will see the updated status on your pen names list:
Not listedPending reviewListed ✓
3

You appear in /creators

Once approved, your pen name appears in the /creators directory. Readers can discover you by browsing or searching.
âš ī¸Turning off "List in public catalog" withdraws your listing immediately and resets the approval status to Not listed. Your lobby page at /creators/[slug] remains accessible — it just will not appear in the directory.
💡Your Creator Profile hub page does not require librarian approval — you control its visibility yourself with the "Make my creator hub public" toggle in Settings → Creator Profile.
đŸ’Ŧ

Your fan room & lobby

Every pen name has a fan room — a study room that is automatically created when you create the pen name. The fan room powers your public lobby page.

Lobby modes

Community off (default)

Your lobby shows: pen name display name, profile image, bio, social links, your works catalog, and a Follow button. Clean and reader-focused. No login required to visit.

Community on

Everything in the quiet lobby, plus:

  • ✓Latest posts from the room
  • ✓Upcoming events
  • ✓Member count
  • ✓Join button (readers can join your fan community)
💡Following vs. joining — the Follow button is always present in both modes. Following subscribes a reader to notifications about new works (no room membership). Joining makes them a member of the fan room and gives them access to posts, events, and chat. These are separate actions — you can follow without joining.

To toggle community mode, open the pen name edit page and look for the Fan Communitysection. The toggle updates your fan room's communityActive flag instantly — no approval needed.

Linking works to pen names

Each work on NotaeLibrary can be linked to one pen name via the Author Profile field. When a work is linked to a pen name:

  • ✓It appears in the works catalog on that pen name's lobby page
  • ✓The pen name's display name is shown as the author on the work
  • ✓Readers who follow that pen name receive notifications about the work

Importing KDP books

When you import a book from Amazon KDP, the import wizard asks which pen name to attach the book to. If you have only one pen name, it is selected automatically. If you have multiple, choose from the dropdown.

If you have no pen names yet, the import flow will auto-create a default pen name using your account name — you can rename and customise it afterwards.

Reassigning a work to a different pen name

Open the work from Workspace → Works, go to its settings, and change the Author Profile field. The work will immediately move to the new pen name's lobby.

đŸ›ī¸

Your creator hub page

Your creator hub is the page at /creators/[your-creator-slug] that shows you as a person — not as a specific pen name. It is useful if you write under multiple names and want readers to see your full portfolio in one place.

1

Set up your Creator Profile

Go to Settings → Creator Profile and fill in your display name, slug, bio, and social links.
2

Opt pen names in

On each pen name's edit page, turn on "Show on my creator hub". Only the pen names you opt in will appear on the hub — you might write under three names but only want two shown together.
3

Make your hub public

Back in Settings → Creator Profile, tick "Make my creator hub public". Your hub page is now live at /creators/[your-slug].

Each opted-in pen name is shown as a card with its display name, profile image, and work count, with a link to its individual lobby page. Readers can then click through to follow specific pen names or join their fan communities.

â„šī¸Your creator hub is separate from your pen name lobbies. A reader at /creators/jane-smith sees the aggregated hub. A reader at /creators/j-a-smithsees just that pen name's lobby, works, and fan community.
